Retainer GP

The Richmond Practice (Bo'ness) is looking for a Retainer GP (4 sessions per week) starting as soon as possible, but we are very happy to wait for the right candidate.

We are a friendly and stable GP-training Practice, looking after 8,500 patients from a purpose-built Health Centre. As well as 9 (yes, nine) partners we have the usual complement of practice nurses, multi-disciplinary team (including physio, pharmacy, mental health, and CTAC members). We also have on-site District nursing and Health visitor teams, and Treatment Room services.

We have been part of the GP Retainer Scheme for over 25 years and are looking for someone to join our existing team. 3 of my partners were previously retainers and the others were ST3s in Bo’ness who joined straight after training or were happy to return when we went headhunting – we are that good a place to work!

The retainer scheme (now Retain and Sustain) has been expanded recently and is typically for someone who has significant non-GP commitments such as young family, a carer role, health issues, a portfolio career, or are otherwise considering leaving GP altogether – basically GPs who it suits to work in a part-time role with minimal non-clinical responsibilities in a highly supportive environment.

I have been the Retainer mentor since 2009 – our focus is not so much on building competence (you have that already: you’re a qualified GP!) but on building and maintaining confidence with an eye on your future, hopefully to a Partner level (you will gather from our Practice that we are big fans of the partnership model in GP!)

  • Coffee break every morning 10-10.30am
  • Practice meeting weekly
  • Multi-disciplinary team including GP Partners, Salaried GPs, ANP, Practice Nurses, HCA, Health Visitors, APP and Mental Health Nurse.
  • We are also a GP Training practice looking to host GP trainees and Medical Students.
  • Monthly mentoring sessions as per the Scheme.
