GP Practice Nurse

30 Lauchope Street, Chapelhall, Airdrie ML6 8SR

Hello

Chapelhall Practice are looking to recruit a new Practice Nurse to join our friendly team. We are looking for either a Band 5 or Band 6 equivalent candidate with previous primary care experience. Prior knowledge and experience of Chronic Disease Management is preferable but not essential as training can be provided in house. An independent prescribing qualification is also desirable but not essential. We are looking to fill a part-time post working 3 days per week on a Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. There is potential scope to increased hours in the future if this is desired by the candidate. We are open to discussing flexible working hours and patterns for the right candidate. The practice does not provide an extended hours or out-of-hours service. The practice does not cover any nursing homes or care homes. Our clinicians enjoy a healthy work / life balance.

We have experience training nurses and ANPs. Our well organised and flexible working week allows our nurses to work autonomously, whilst also providing a supportive environment to work closely alongside fellow nurses, GPs and other healthcare professionals. This post is therefore an exciting opportunity for nurses wishing to enhance their clinical knowledge and skills in order to develop their professional career. We have an open door policy when it comes to seeking advice or second opinions from colleagues – we are always happy to help and there will always be a GP working alongside a nurse on any given day.

Admin workload is minimal as all docman is streamlined by our excellent administrative team, and we are fortunate to have the Airdrie pharmacotherapy hub to action our discharge letters and medication related docman. Knowledge of Vision and Docman IT systems is desirable but not essential – we are happy to demonstrate and train any candidate on the use of these IT systems.

All applicants should hold valid NMC registration. The successful candidate can expect indemnity cover to be provided through the practice group scheme. The post is remunerated depending on qualifications and experience.

See ‘About Us’ section below for more information about our practice, including details about our practice team, our appointment system, and our practice ethos. Please also feel free to check out our website at https://www.chapelhallpractice.co.uk/.

If you are interested in being part of a friendly practice team which focuses on delivering a high quality multi-service approach to patient care, then we look forward to hearing from you. Joining our practice team is an excellent opportunity to develop your career and we encourage the pursuit of specialist clinical interests. We are a long-standing teaching practice and are happy for applicants to become involved in teaching if this is desired, however this is not essential. We are flexible on start date and are willing to wait for the right candidate.

Applications should be made by email, providing a covering letter and Curriculum Vitae to: ewan.thomson@nhs.scot. Informal enquiries are welcome. If interested in applying or wish to enquire further please feel free to email Ewan. Please enquire/apply early to avoid disappointment. Closing date for applications is Sunday 9th November 2025.

In our team we have 5 GPs, 1 Advanced Nurse Practitioner and 1 Nurse Practitioner. The Health Board also supplies us a Pharmacist, Midwife, Mental Health Nurse, Occupational Therapist, Community Link Worker, and Healthcare Assistants who provide phlebotomy services and Chronic Disease Monitoring within our own premises. We have access to- treatment room services supplied by the Health Board.

We have a large group of fantastic administration staff that support us in our working day.

We are also exploring the process involved to train FY2 doctors. We also trained our current Nurse Practitioner and Advanced Nurse Practitioner.

Before Covid we moved to a full GP triage system which has allowed us to offer longer appointment times whether remotely or face to face. Practice Nurse appointments are 15 minutes in length. Our nurses are not involved in triaging patients - triage is carried out by our GPs.

Everyone within the Practice works together as a team to improve patient care which is reflected in our patient surveys and in the feedback we receive from staff. We are an innovative Practice always looking at ways in which we can improve.

We look forward to hearing from you.
